Abstract
Blood analysis is very important for getting basic informations about physiological abnormal status of animals.
There are a lot of factors that influence on the results of hematological and blood biochemical analysis. The factors include site, speed, frequency, interval and volume of blood sampling and anesthetics and restrain methods used for blood
collecting.
Among these various factors, the site of blood sampling is the most important one affecting hematological and blood biochemical values and pharmaco-and toxicokinetics. Jugular vein is seldom used in blood sampling for the difficulties in
operation,
although it is a good site for blood collection inlaboratory animals.
In order to solve these problems, we established an improved blood sampling method via jugular vein in unanesthetized rat. Two persons are required for the operation of this method; one restraining and the other for blood collecting. Blood
sampling
method from this site has more advantages such as less damage to tissue, less stress on animals and relatively more amount(2~3ml) of blood for shorter time(20~30 seconds) than those from other sites. Especially, this method can be adapted for
long
term
study of chemical toxicities due to its convenience of periodical and repeating blood collection from the same rat. In addition, the influences of anesthetics on the hematological, blood biochemical values and etc. can be excluded because this
method is
performed without any anesthetic.
